How to live with the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak?

How to live with the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak?
With the whole world on a massive panic alert about the recently discovered strain of Coronavirus COVID-19, you must be on your toes! Read on to know how to live with the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak.
What we know about the saga of Coronavirus, so far?
Reports in late 2019 about an unidentified viral flu were made which was assumed to be linked with the Coronavirus strain. The viral strain was believed to have emerged from a seafood market in Wuhan. later on, it was suspected that the viral outbreak was a result of a failed lab experiment in China, although there is no evidential proof supporting both reports. so far, it is confirmed that the strain is not man-made and have originated from nature.
On Jan 7, scientists identified the pathogen as a new Coronavirus.
Since then, the virus has managed to reach other countries, both in and outside Asia. Government authorities described this as an outbreak and the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the situation to be a public health emergency.
To date, the novel Coronavirus strain has caused 78,191 infections in China and 2,918 across 37 other world countries. In China alone, the virus has claimed 2,718 lives. It also led to one fatality in the Philippines.
Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans.
How to live around the epidemic?
You should know what you are dealing with first.
The nCoV is a new strain of Coronavirus that has been recently discovered in humans. Earlier, it was not identified as a viral strain that could infect humans. World health organization has introduced the Coronavirus as the novel viral strain belonging to a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as MERS-CoV (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and SARS-CoV (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).
The mode of transmission of Coronaviruses is from a primary animal to an intermediate host, which then finally gets transmitted to humans.
How it spreads?
Coronavirus spreads from the carrier animal to the intermediate host. When humans come in close contact with the infected animals, they contract the virus. Infected humans are the main source of spreading of virus between humans. When a healthy person comes in close proximity to the infected one and takes in their liquid droplets in the form of cough or sneeze, they become infected too.
Though not completely supported, some theories point out that the virus may accumulate on a surface or get carried around with dust particles. Touching or coming in contact with such areas may result in contracting it.
What are the symptoms that an infected person show?
The symptoms start appearing after 2- 14 days of exposure. You might be affected if you show these symptoms:
Some common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath and breathing problems. Fever, cough.
When conditions persist untreated, severe infections can cause Pneumonia, kidney failure, severe acute respiratory syndrome and in most severe cases- death!
Prevention and treatment:
Prevention is better than cure. And in this case, there is no cure so far. Hence, the best possible way to combat this disease is to avoid exposure.
National Centre for Disease Control has recommended preventive measures against Coronavirus. These includes:
Follow good hygiene practice. Thoroughly wash your hands after coming from outside. Wash properly for at least 1 minute.
Do not come in contact with a person who is visibly showing signs and symptoms of coughing and sneezing.
Wear special protective masks around infected people. If you work in a medical facility, wear protective gears issued to all medical centres.
Keep your distance with a sick family member. It is recommended to maintain a distance of at least 3 feet while interacting with them.
If you are taking care of a sick family member, then wear protective gears such as masks, gloves. Discard them after use to prevent further transmissions.
You never know which area is susceptible to the virus, hence avoid touching your face, especially eyes.
Cook animal products properly. Abstain from consuming raw or undercooked meat and eggs.
Stay home if you are sick. Preventive measures work both ways. Try to remain quarantined until you get your results for CoV-19 back clear. Try to make arrangements to work remotely or from home.
While coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth with a tissue, then discard it properly.
Keep your surroundings clean and clear of any visible grime. Get the best disinfecting products and regularly keep the most susceptible places clean.
Follow NCDC recommendations for using a face mask.
There is no specific antiviral treatment recommended for COVID-19. People with COVID-19 should receive supportive care to help relieve symptoms. For severe cases, treatment should include care to support vital organ functions.
People who think they may have been exposed to COVID-19 should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
Get yourself tested early. The symptoms of the virus remain dormant and the infected person doesn’t show any signs of the disease for over 2 weeks. Your near-by hospitals must have arranged special testing centres for CoV-19. You should go ahead and get your tests done. It won’t count as being over-cautious if you decide to jump the gun.
Shoulder your social responsibilities:
You have certain responsibilities towards society to fulfil. Speaking with this context, you should uphold your side of the duties by spreading awareness and correct information about the disease.
Avoid infodemic- an epidemic caused by information(mostly false). Do not create or participate in any sort of false allegations or rumours. The public is already stressed enough.
We all know what happened when the Chinese authorities in Wuhan suppressed all the initial danger alerts for CoV-19. People don’t like to be kept in the dark. The local authorities need to make any sort of related alerts transparent and maintain decorum.
The Government of India is raising awareness and implementing preventive measures all over the nation. It is the ultimate responsibility of local authorities and state officials to make accurate information accessible to the public, and also to avoid panic and misinformation. They should also keep a check on any false rumours or baseless claims made on the areas affected or death toll in various regions.
Rumors such as Coronavirus being a man-made strain is widely dismissed by the scientists worldwide. Any conspiracy theories related to the virus being a failed bioweapon should be dismissed at all costs.
Keep yourself updated on the current news and follow only the reliable source available on the web.

Is it Safe to Travel amid Coronavirus Epidemic ?

Is it Safe to Travel amid Coronavirus Epidemic ?
One of the major downsides of keeping up with the latest news reports on Coronavirus is the dilemma that lurks in one’s mind- is it safe to travel amid the epidemic? Especially when you have an important business meeting to attend to overseas.
Since late December 2019, Coronavirus has managed to spread over 79 countries and claimed more than 3000 lives. Rate of infection has crossed over 1 lakh people and still counting. These are unfortunate times to live in. We can not keep on blaming the Wuhan government forever for not implementing timely actions to contain the virus. The best we can do in the present circumstances is to protect ourselves by adopting the best preventive measures.
Impact on international travel industry
Needless to say, travelling is at the very most bottom of the to-do list these days. News reports from all over the world have confirmed cases of Coronavirus from various countries. It is evident now that the virus is not limited to the Asian countries and has spread around the world. It is obvious that travelling is one of its mode of transmission. This has affected the international travel industry the most. It has become quite common for people to frantically cancel on their business trips or overseas vacations. Major airlines have taken quite a fall in terms of declining travelling frequency in the past few months.
Not only the affected countries, but the neighbouring regions are also advising people to stay at home and avoid any public gatherings. This has resulted in the cancellation of many national and social events all across the globe including India. Holi celebrations have also taken quite a hit. Noteworthily, nation’s PM Narendra Modi has himself decided to refrain from participating in the upcoming festival.
Is COVID-19 airborne?
The novel Coronavirus that has been named SARS-CoV-2 is found to be Zoonotic. Which means their mode of transmission is between animal to animal. More research is required to unfold how exactly the virus was originated but most speculations are directed towards bats to be the origin and pangolins as the intermediate hosts which ultimately got transmitted to humans.
How does it spread?
Although the virus which causes COVID-19 in humans is Zoonotic, its further transmission between humans is the matter of greater concern. It is transmitted via airborne respiratory droplets of an infected individual. In simpler terms, through coughing, sneezing or by coming in contact with a surface where the droplets may have accumulated. There is very limited evidence for claims stating the virus can spread through contaminated faecal matter. Until the reports go higher in its support, this claim has no danger signals yet. Hence, we could say that SARS-CoV-2 is airborne, although the supporting cases are not that common.
Speaking in terms of being completely airborne, Coronavirus do not seem to have the virulence capacity of more potent viruses such as Measles. Which means the chances of getting the infection from an infected space or surface is less likely. Nevertheless, safe hygiene practices should be implemented on a daily basis to minimize even the 0.00001% chances of infection.
What precautionary measures can be taken?
The best way to handle a viral disease is to protect yourself before it makes its strike. You can prevent catching COVID-19 by employing simple hygiene practice in your daily routine.
Washing your hands thoroughly with a strong cleanser every time before eating, after you come from the bathroom and when you blow your nose, sneeze or cough.
I have covered this whole topic in another blog, named, How to live with the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak?”
Follow the link to know more.
When to call your doctor?
If you have not been to the high-risk countries such as China, Iran, Japan in the past few months and are down with the symptoms of flu, it is most likely that you have not caught CoV-2. In this case, you should follow the usual protocol of taking a healthy diet and taking complete rest until you recover.
If you are sick and have visited those countries or have come in contact with someone who’ve been there and is now sick with symptoms of coughing, fever, difficulty in breathing, you should contact your doctor or local emergency centre. They will then help you to get the required tests and treatment alternatives to be taken.
Should you proceed with your travelling plans?
Avoiding disease-prone areas or travelling only to safe zones are the requisites for remaining infection-free. But you cannot deny the fact that the vessel that will be carrying over 100 people needs to be infection-free too. Yes, chances are you might be travelling with a person who has contracted the virus but is showing no visible symptoms yet. In such cases, the situation becomes scarier in the absence of confirmation.
What to do then?
Health authorities all across the globe have issued certain measures to be taken in public places where physical contact is unavoidable. Moreover, travel industries are taking up serious sanitation measures for decontamination of their modes of transportation. It is highly unlikely for CoV-2 to sustain in a well-decontaminated environment, hence it should be enough to put your worries to rest.
The general advice is to maintain a minimum distance of 6 feet between you and the infected. But it is not the best resort in public transports where everyone is bound to limited space. Sanitizing your area is the best viable option.
Don’t touch your face with your bare hands, especially eyes, nose and mouth. If possible keep your face covered, it will prevent any foreign substance entry via your hands. Gloves are not a feasible option as the main objective is to protect your face. An infected glove serves the same purpose as that of a bare hand. However, if you are taking care of an infected person, gloves and masks both should be part of your attire.
Avoid touching surfaces that are more exposed. If you must, say support yourself on the hanging strap of a train, disinfect your hand immediately with a 95% alcohol-based sanitizer and wash your hands properly afterwards with an efficient cleanser.
Keep your mouth covered with a mask around those who seem to show symptoms of infection.
If you plan to visit China out of all places, pay attention to all the preventive measures and cooperate with the local airport’s security protocol, which includes the mandatory screening tests for CoV-2. Since you already know the origin theories of the virus, it will be wise to stay away from live animal markets.
Wear your mask only if you are infected!
Public health experts do not recommend wearing masks for healthy people. As there is a global panic that is haunting people all across, it is natural that a shortage of protective gears will also occur. People who have not contracted the virus need not wearing it all the time or out in public. Medical practitioners, caregivers and infected people are in the dire need of wearing them. Over precautionary actions might lead to a shortage of supplies for the needful, as it is happening all over the world. Hence, have a hold of your senses and spread the word.
In conclusion, your travelling choices will affect your susceptibility to the virus only when you negate the precautionary measures mentioned above. Until and unless you consider and adopt the necessary course of action, travelling anywhere should be safe. Just not the Eastern-Asian regions for a while, or maybe longer!

A Smarter Way to Learn “Data Science” - The Ultimate Guide for Beginners

A Smarter Way to Learn “Data Science
Whether you’re new or just need to brush up your skills in data science, we’ll help you know everything about Data Science in detail.
Before stepping into Data Science concept, you must be aware of the several things that will help you add value to your business.
Points you need to consider
Programming Language
So, before you knock up Data Science, Programming Language must be a foremost factor you should take into account. Here, we prefer 3 Programming Languages such as:
Python
R
JAVA
In the new era of technological advancements, Python and R have been considered to be the topmost languages as they include lot of liabraries and with the help of those libraries one can implement several machine learning algorithms.
Machine Learning
While considering Machine Learning, various techniques coming into existence are defined as Supervised, Unsupervised, Reinforcement and much more. Further if you move on to machine learning, you will be facing several problems such as:
Classification Problems
Regression Problems
Reinforcemental Learning
Deep Learning
Dimensionality Reduction
Apart from these, Clustering Algorithm is also included in Machine Learning process. All your problems basically revolves around these kind of scenarios discussed above.
Next we move on to TOOLS,
IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is a basic tool used for coding the Python and R Programming languages. There’s another tool called Pycharm in Python Programming Language, Jupiter and Spider also comes in the same. So, if you gear up with Python, make sure you go with one of these tools of IDE and if you’re going with R Programming language, know what’s included in R studio and how to work with it further.
Web Scrapping
The tool is generally used to collect data and for that various libraries are considered such as
Beautiful Soup
Scrapy
URLLIB
All these tools discussed will sort all your problems and help you read data apart in the form of Jason. Basic knowledge of Web Scarpping will surely lead you to grab much information.
What is the Role of Maths in Data Science?
The field keep the hold of the concepts drawn from Mathematics as the results achieved from specific processes might be useful for the following problem such as forecasting company profits. In data Science, the understanding of various notions of Statistics and Probability Theory are said to be the key for implementing such algorithms. When we talk about Maths here, the whole slot of algorithms basically revolves around Statistics, Linear Alg, and Differential Calculus.
Data Visualization
Data Visualisation basically includes
Tableau
Power BI
All these tools differ from each other and help you do different visualization stuff. Apart from this, you have Python and R having different libraries that might plot bond which let you do a lot of visualisation with respect to your code that you’re basically writing.
Data Analysis
The most important stage helps in doing
Feature Engineering
Data Wrangling
Exploratory Data Analysis
Another scenario comes Deployment!
In this particular deployment, you can use different tools such as
AWS
Azure
Now, all the components that have been discussed above, you need to follow atleast one-one thing from these. If we talk about Programming Language, you must be aware of all the algorithm so, learn, grab and understand the maths behind them. You can start it by solving them, implementing them. However, based on Data Scientist, you will be using different techniques. So, before getting into machine learning algorithm, we might use particular libraries stating Tableu, Power BI and many more.
While implementing, you need not to study all these concepts separately, gear up or give a start with some used case, for example, you can take a house prediction. What will you require for that will be- data! So, get started with used case, apply the used case and try understand what that case is all about. Further, applying to all these techniques, you can even start with Data Visualisation Technique or Data Analysis Technique. With this you can come on to the Machine Learning process, where you can detect various problems, such as regression problem, deep learning or classification problem. Then make a move towards IDE (Integrated Development Environment) where you will be applying different codes.
Summing Up
Even though you are working on some different domain name, if you give an idea that you can solve this particular problem with the help of machine learning that will be a very great use for the company people. May be your manager or Team Leader appreciate you for the same as you are trying your best to solve the particular problem in an effective manner through the machine learning technique itself. What you basically need to do is, try to do a reverse engineering, follow the part discussed above and analyze results accordingly by implementing these steps. However, you need to study, work and implement those specific tools, algorithms and solve problems in order to define your work in no time and proceed further with the flow.

Major Myth-Busting facts for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

There is a lot of information and misinformation related to the latest epidemic caused by the novel Coronavirus which has been termed as SARS-CoV-2. Those people who have been consistently updating their knowledge about the virus through news or reports are often misinformed. The chain continues and in the present circumstances, it has become difficult to separate the truth from lies. Based on the latest public announcements issued by the World Health Organization, here we are listing some major myth-busting facts for Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), a respiratory infection caused by the CoV-2 virus.
The main purpose of this blog is to filter out the facts from rumours that are fueling false news reports and augmenting public disturbances.
Following information has been declared to be a plain hoax by the World Health Organization. The fact about the so-called myths is also given along with some insight on the origin of those rumours.
Myth #1: Coronavirus is a failed biological weapon!
Fact:
Authorities of Wuhan and the level 4 research laboratory from where the virus was suspected to have escaped, have provided enumerable claims with evidence of their non-involvement. Virologists, studying especially Coronavirus strongly suggest that the origin of the novel strain of CoV is purely natural. This discards any such speculations of the virus being the mutated form of common cold, lab creation or meddled bioweapon.
SARS-CoV-2, the name given to the novel strain, belongs to a family of Coronaviruses that infect humans as their primary hosts. It was found that nCoV shares 90% of its genetic material with Coronaviruses that infect bats. This shed some light on the origin of the virus, which was definitely not some lab. The truth of its origin is yet to be confirmed, but it is a fact that it came from nature and is not man-made.
Myth #2: Bathing regularly with hot water can make you immune to the virus
Fact:
CoV-2 is not an ectoparasite or bacteria that remain intact to a viable host body surface. It is a virus that can not be killed by any means if it enters your body. Your body under normal circumstances maintains its core temperature at 37°C no matter how much you submerge yourself in hot water tubs. Anyhow, heat is unlikely to kill the virus but it is capable of scalding you instead! Hence, torturing yourself with hot water baths is not gonna solve anything.
Solution: The most effective measure that is suggested by all medical centres is to wash your hands regularly with a strong cleanser, use 95% alcohol-based hand sanitizers and clean exposed surfaces in your house with Sodium Hypochlorite based disinfectants.
Myth #3: Wearing masks will avoid 100% chances of contracting the virus
Fact:
Wearing masks is not advised as the best preventive fix for an average healthy person. You will remain exposed to CoV-2 even with your mask on. In fact, in some cases, masks have increased the risk of infection when not properly sanitized or disposed of.
Solution:
Centres for Disease Control and Prevention does not encourage the inhabitants of an infection-free zone to wear masks specially designed for the infected. Washing your hands properly, following sanitation practices and opting to healthy nutrition are the only effective protective measures that you should take. For medical practitioners or those tending the infected, surgical masks and special respirators called N95 respirators have been proven to be effective against the virus spread. But the respirators are not prescribed for the general public due to various reasons. For one, they are intricately designed which may not be suitable for people with persisting respiratory and cardiac problems.
Myth #4: COVID-19 can adversely affect everybody
Fact:
Everyone is indeed at risk of contracting the virus but the level of morbidity depends upon certain factors such as low immune system, age, people already under treatment for other sickness, pneumonia or long term medical care. These people are at high risk of getting adversely affected by the virus. Precautions still needs to be taken by everyone amid the accelerating spreading rate of the infection.
Myth #5: Your pets are potential virus carriers
Fact:
Such rumours got hyped up when a local dog in china was found to be tested positive for CoV. It was found to have contracted a very low level of the virus probably from its owner who was infected with CoV-2. There is no evidence so far that the dog has spread the infection to other humans, meaning they have no such capability to transmit the virus. Many other pets were also tested negative as carrier hosts of the virus, thus negating the hypothesis of them being the culprits.
Still, it is advised by the CDC to take proper care of your pets and wash your hands properly after touching them. If you are sick, let someone trusted to take care of your pet for a while.
Myth #6: Do not receive any Chinese product or package dispatched from China
Fact:
It has been proved that there is no way CoV-2 can survive on paper-based products for that long! The virus needs certain favorable conditions to thrive without a live host. International delivery routes and temperature factors are often way too extreme for the virus to stay viable. Plastic, metal or glass products which are properly enclosed in wrapping materials also lose their tendency to carry the virus. Hence, it is safe to accept goods from China as long as you disinfect them post-arrival and clean your hands thoroughly.
Myth #7: Coronavirus can be transmitted through mosquito bites
Fact:
Until now, no proofs have been provided that are supporting this hypothesis. Mostly because CoV-2 is a respiratory viral strain that is spread through infected air droplets of an infected person. Moreover, mosquitoes do not seem to have the favourable genetic makeup for acting as virus’s carriers. So, no you won’t get infected through a mosquito bite but do keep them away for protection against other diseases they are capable of causing.
Myth #8: UV lamps can be used to disinfect your hands
Fact:
Not by any mean should you use UV rays on yourself! It is extremely dangerous and a foolish attempt at fighting CoV-2. This idea has originated from the fact that Coronavirus is sensitive to UV radiations and many industries opt to indoor disinfection via UV lights. Any incomplete information is dangerous and in this case hazardous. Those indoor UV treatments that you have heard of, requires certain guidelines to follow. The intensity of the UV radiations should be set at 1.5 Watts per square meter. The treatment should not last for more than half an hour and the room should be well ventilated afterwards. Treating UV lamp as your regular sanitizer will end you up in the hospital for all the wrong reasons!
Myth #9: Taking vitamin C supplements is equivalent to getting vaccinated
Fact:
First of all, there is no vaccine yet made to cure COVID-19. People who suggest getting anti-pneumonia shots are the ones who have little knowledge of the newly discovered virus. CoV-2 is a completely new virus with different virulence factors. Its very own vaccine creation is under process as many labs all over the world are waiting to get ready for the human trials of their prototype vaccines. A vaccine is soon underway until then it is important to understand the basic facts. Any sort of food supplement or nutrient is not potent enough to fight a viral disease that gets genetically bonded to its host. Hence, such ideas should not be encouraged in this context.
You might have read somewhere that garlic is the superfood with a strong tendency to fight CoV-2, a claim that is baseless and blown out of proportion. However, taking it or any vitamin source is great for building immunity which should be taken by all means. Just don’t confuse prevention with the cure.
Myth #10: Taking antibiotics is enough to treat COVID-19
Fact:
COVID-19 is the disease that is caused by the novel strain of Coronavirus -SARS-CoV-2. It is a viral disease that is completely different than a bacterial disease. Mixing both is like apples and oranges. It is imperative to spread awareness about viral and bacterial infections.
When you catch flu, you are most likely affected by a virus which can not be killed by taking antibacterial drugs. Even the antiviral medications that your doctor put you through, can only subside the symptoms and help you recover. If you are still wondering why your doctor prescribes you antibiotics when you catch flu, that’s because you probably had developed bacterial infections along with viral and those antibiotics are for taking care of those bacteria.
Please, do spread the word as taking wrong medication can elevate your problems instead of getting rid of them.
Myth #11: Abstain from having animal products as they will transmit the virus into your system
Fact:
As mentioned before, CoV-2 is a respiratory virus that transmits through infected bodily droplets that an infected person produces while sneezing or coughing. There is no evidence of contracting CoV-2 after consuming animal meat or eggs.
For being on the safer side, it is recommended to properly cook the food before consuming. Raw food products are never a smart choice, especially raw meat or eggs. There are greater risks of contracting other infections (for example, parasitic infections) through animal products, but CoV-2 is not one of them yet.
Myth #12: Colder regions such as Antarctica are infection-free because of cold weather, hence by dropping your room temperature you can be safe from the infection
Fact:
Antarctica is infection-free because the virus has not spread there yet. If the virus has already entered your body, changing your external temperature to low or high won’t make any difference. CoV-2 is affected by temperature and other factors such as humidity, UV radiation, etc only when it lies dormant on a susceptible surface. When it enters a living host, it doesn’t matter how much changes are brought upon the external environment. It is false to assume that Coronavirus can be killed with heat either. The only best measure is to take precautionary steps to keep your self infection-free.
Talking about the precautionary measures, let me summarize them real quick:
WHO have issued certain measures to be taken against the novel Coronavirus strain. For the sake of simplicity, let’s divide them into two categories based on preventive and post-exposure measures:
